FAQs
Of course. You'll have the opportunity to give this input by text, or even send us images of sketches you may already have.
If you aren't certain what your illustrations should look like, no problem. Our expert illustrator can come up with concepts for you.
You'll need to provide:
(1) Intended audience. The style of illustration needs to appeal to the book's intended audience.
(2) Page dimensions. If you plan to turn your completed book into a hardcover or paperback version, we'll need to know the page dimensions. Here's a link to view page-dimension options. If you're unsure what dimensions to pick, we can help you choose. We can also create illustrations for books intended to just be e-books (ie, no physical version).
(3) Text. We'll need the text of your book. You'll also need to specify what lines of text correspond to each illustrated page, and some basic steps on how to position the text on the page.
Prior to sending us your book's text, we recommend you have a professional editor go through it. If you haven't yet done this, we can edit it for you.
We mainly create illustrations for children's and poetry books. However, if you need illustrations of a different type, we'll see if we can help with a custom order - just email us.
In your message, include your genre, an estimate of how many pages you'll need illustrated, and whether you'd like the pages in black and white or color.
Our poetry book illustrations are in black and white and our children's book illustrations are in color. If you need a custom order for a different genre, just email us.
In your message, mention your color preference, genre, and an estimate of the number of illustrated pages you need.
Of course. Our service includes up to 3 rounds of revisions.
Though Galdi Media does not have an illustration minimum requirement, if you plan to self-publish your completed book on Amazon in paperback or hardcover format, it will need to be at least 24 pages.
This does not necessarily mean you must have 24 illustrations. Possibly your book does not need an illustration on every page. Pages with just text count toward the 24-page minimum.
The duration of the illustration process depends on the number of illustrations you need. In general, 10 illustrated pages would take about 3 weeks.
After your illustrations are complete, you can begin the self-publishing process. Since Amazon is the world's largest book retailer, we recommend you use Amazon KDP (Kindle Direct Publishing) to self-publish your book.
Once your book has been added to KDP, Amazon users will be able to purchase it at a price you set. You also have the option to order what's known as author copies - these are paperback or hardcover copies an author can order at a discount.
For instance, let's say you'd like to resell or give away signed copies of your book. You can order a box of them at a discount and have them shipped right to your home.
Self-publishing a book not only involves the creation of a cover, but various file-formatting steps. Unless you have professional experience in graphic design and file formatting, we do not recommend you do this stuff yourself.
Galdi Media can do it all for you with our self-publishing launch package.
Kindle and paperback versions of your book are included in the package. You also have the option to add a hardcover version.
You have four main options for illustrating your book:
1.) Doing it yourself. Unless you're a professional illustrator, we strongly advise that you do not do this. Bringing on an expert is critical.
2.) Hiring a freelancer. Though many good freelancers are out there, plenty overpromise and under-deliver. Knowing whether you're choosing an effective one can be hard. Plus, if you go with a freelancer, you'll have to spend time managing the project.
3.) Working with another company that provides illustration services. Though other companies provide similar services as Galdi Media, many force authors into restrictive, lifetime contracts that claim a significant percentage of a book's royalties. In addition, your point of contact at these companies likely won't be its president, or a #1 bestselling author.
4.) Partnering with Galdi Media. Your point of contact will be Ted Galdi, our president, and a #1 bestselling author. He'll give you customized advice to make your book a success. You won't have to do any project management. Ted will make sure experts from his network handle everything for you. Because he believes authors should keep 100% of their earnings, you won't be asked to give over a royalty percentage, or to sign any contracts at all.
