FAQs
Amazon allows self-published authors to sell hardcover copies via print-on-demand. This means you don't have to take care of printing, storing, and shipping physical books yourself, which would be a burden. Instead, when someone orders a copy, Amazon will create it and mail it to the buyer.
You need to submit two PDF files to Amazon, which let it know how to accurately create hardcover copies of your book.
The interior file contains the pages of your book, plus any additional interior sections, such as "about the author" and "acknowledgments."
The exterior file contains the graphics for your front cover, your back cover, and the book's spine, in addition to measurement inputs to assure your spine's height properly lines up to the height of your interior pages.
Galdi Media can create hardcover files for you if you simply provide us your manuscript and designs for your front cover, back cover, and spine.
If your book is primarily text (ex, a novel), you can send us your manuscript as a Microsoft Word file (or as a similar word-processing file).
If your manuscript has a lot of images (ex, an illustrated book or cookbook), you'll need to send us a file with your oriented text and images. Certain file formats are ideal for reflecting text/image orientation, such as InDesign.
For books with chapters, Galdi Media will create a table of contents for you.
If you don't yet have designs for your front cover, back cover, and spine, we can create them for you with our service for cover design.

You can sell hardcover copies of your book on Amazon. When Amazon users visit your book's page on the site and order a hardcover copy, Amazon will take care of printing it and shipping it. In exchange, Amazon will keep a portion of the sales price, while you get the rest.
To self-publish a hardcover version on Amazon, you not only need interior and exterior files, but a description, categories, and keywords. To expand your book's reach, we also recommend you have e-book and a paperback versions created, too.
If you don't yet have this other material, in addition to ordering our Hardcover File Formatting service, you should consider ordering our self-publishing launch package.
Yes. Once your hardcover version has been added to Amazon, you can order what's known as author copies. These books are no different than the ones Amazon sells to other people, however, as the author, you're able to get them at a discount.
For instance, if you'd like to resell or give out signed hardcover copies, you can order a box at a discount and have it shipped right to your home.
To sell hardcover copies, you will need an ISBN (International Standard Book Number), which is a universal identification number for a book. These numbers are used to generate the barcode on your back cover.
If you plan to just sell your hardcover version through Amazon, it will assign your book a free ISBN during self-publishing. To sell your hardcover version via other sources, you will need to purchase an ISBN through Bowker, or a similar provider, and give Galdi Media the number.
If you have - or plan to have - a paperback version of your book, you will need two ISBNs, one for the paperback and a second for the hardcover.
Theoretically, yes, you can create your own interior and exterior PDF files for your hardcover version. However, unless you have experience calculating the dimensions of integrated files, you may spend a lot of time on the task, only to have your submission rejected. If you provide files to Amazon with even a single error, they won't be accepted.
Even if you are able to correctly calculate the necessary dimensions, unless you also have graphic-design skills, your book's spine and back cover won't be appealing to readers.
The experts at Galdi Media can make your hardcover version look great, while assuring its measurements pass Amazon's review process.
If you're self-publishing your book, you have four main options for getting a hardcover version formatted:
1.) Doing it yourself. This can eat up a lot of your time. Also, unless you have file-sizing and graphic-design experience, you likely won't be as effective as a professional. Plus, Amazon is likely to reject your submission.
2.) Hiring a freelancer. Though many good freelancers are out there, plenty of them overpromise and under-deliver. Knowing whether or not you're choosing an effective one can be hard. Plus, if you go with a freelancer, you'll have to spend time managing the project.
3.) Working with another company that provides self-publishing services. Though other companies provide similar services as Galdi Media, many force authors into restrictive, lifetime contracts that claim a significant percentage of a book's royalties. In addition, your point of contact at these companies likely won't be its president, or a #1 bestselling author.
4.) Partnering with Galdi Media. Your point of contact will be Ted Galdi, our president, and a #1 bestselling author. He'll give you customized advice to make your book a success. You won't have to do any file sizing, graphic design, or project management. Ted will make sure experts from his network handle everything for you. Because he believes authors should keep 100% of their earnings, you won't be asked to give over a royalty percentage, or to sign any contracts at all.
