FAQs
Amazon allows self-published authors to sell paperbacks via print-on-demand. This means you don't have to take care of printing, storing, and shipping paperbacks yourself, which would be a burden. Instead, when someone orders a paperback of yours, Amazon will create a physical copy and mail it to the buyer.
You need to submit two PDF files to Amazon, which let it know how to accurately create physical copies of your book.
The interior file contains the chapters of your book, plus any additional interior sections, such as "about the author" and "acknowledgments."
The exterior file contains the graphics for your front cover, your back cover, and the book's spine, in addition to measurement inputs to assure your spine's height properly lines up to the height of your interior pages.
Galdi Media can create paperback files for you if you simply provide us your manuscript and front-cover image.
If your book is primarily text (ex, a novel), you can send us your manuscript as a Microsoft Word file (or as a similar word-processing file).
If your manuscript has a lot of images (ex, an illustrated book or cookbook), you'll need to send us a file with your laid-out text and images. Certain file formats are ideal for reflecting text/image layouts, such as InDesign.
If your book contains chapters, Galdi Media will create a table of contents for you.
We strongly recommend you have a professional edit your manuscript prior to beginning the publishing process for your paperback.
If you haven't yet had your manuscript edited, we can edit it for you.
We will create graphics for your book's spine and back cover based on the design of your front cover, taking into account colors, fonts, etc. If you give us your author photo, bio, and book blurb, we can add them to your back cover.
To get started, you'll need your front cover. If you don't yet have one, we can design a cover for you.

You can sell paperback copies of your book on Amazon. When Amazon users visit your book's page on the site and order a paperback, Amazon will take care of printing it and shipping it. In exchange, Amazon will keep a portion of the sales price, while you get the rest.
If you self-publish a paperback on Amazon, you'll also have the option for something known as expanded distribution. If you choose to use this (which we recommend), Amazon will make your paperback available for sale on other websites, and from catalogs used by libraries and bookstores.
To self-publish a paperback on Amazon, you not only need interior and exterior files, but a description, categories, and keywords. To expand your book's reach, we also recommend you have an e-book version for Kindle created, too.
If you just need paperback interior and exterior files (and have accounted for the other material), then get our Paperback File Formatting service with an "Order Now" button on this page.

Yes. Once your paperback has been added to Amazon, you can order what's known as author copies. These books are no different than the ones Amazon sells to other people, however, as the author, you're able to get them at a discount.
For instance, if you'd like to resell or give out signed copies of your paperback, you can order a box at a discount and have it shipped right to your home.
To sell paperbacks, you will need an ISBN (International Standard Book Number), which is a universal identification number for a book. These numbers are used to generate the barcode on your back cover.
If you plan to just sell your paperbacks through Amazon and its expanded distribution network, Amazon will assign your book a free ISBN during self-publishing. To sell your paperback via other sources, you will need to purchase an ISBN through Bowker, or a similar provider, and give Galdi Media the number.
If you have - or plan to have - a hardcover version of your book, you will need two ISBNs, one for the hardcover and a second for the paperback.
Theoretically, yes, you can create your own interior and exterior PDF files for your paperback. However, unless you have experience calculating the dimensions of integrated files, you may spend a lot of time on the task, only to have your submission rejected. If you provide files to Amazon with even a single error, they won't be accepted.
Even if you are able to correctly calculate the necessary dimensions, unless you also have graphic-design skills, your book's spine and back cover won't be appealing to readers.
The experts at Galdi Media can make your paperback look great, while assuring its measurements pass Amazon's review process.
If you're self-publishing your book, you have four main options for getting a paperback formatted:
1.) Doing it yourself. This can eat up a lot of your time. Also, unless you have file-sizing and graphic-design experience, you likely won't be as effective as a professional. Plus, Amazon is likely to reject your submission.
2.) Hiring a freelancer. Though many good freelancers are out there, plenty of them overpromise and under-deliver. Knowing whether or not you're choosing an effective one can be hard. Plus, if you go with a freelancer, you'll have to spend time managing the project.
3.) Working with another company that provides self-publishing services. Though other companies provide similar services as Galdi Media, many force authors into restrictive, lifetime contracts that claim a significant percentage of a book's royalties. In addition, your point of contact at these companies likely won't be its president, or a #1 bestselling author.
4.) Partnering with Galdi Media. Your point of contact will be Ted Galdi, our president, and a #1 bestselling author. You won't have to do any file sizing, graphic design, or project management. Ted will make sure experts from his network handle everything for you. Because Ted believes authors should keep 100% of their earnings, you won't be asked to give over a royalty percentage, or to sign any contracts at all. Just pay a low, one-time fee and we'll help make your book a success.
Other companies that offer self-publishing support may say that they have a big, international distribution network for your book, as a justification for higher prices. You may conclude that if your book is available in a lot of places, sales will have to go up.
But, in reality, one retail site accounts for almost every sale of self-published authors' books - Amazon.
Plus, you will have a much easier time hitting a bestseller chart on Amazon if your book is enrolled in its Kindle Unlimited program. To enroll, your e-book version needs to be exclusive to Amazon.
Including your e-book on a large network of retail sites will restrict you from joining Kindle Unlimited and reduce your odds of becoming a bestseller.
We're ready to help you climb the bestseller charts
